Tennis is a popular sport played individuals or in pairs on a court with rackets and a small ball. The game involves hitting the ball over the net to score points. Tennis is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, including those who use wheelchairs. The history of tennis can be traced back to the game of jeu de paume in 11th century France, which later evolved into lawn tennis or grass tennis played in the 16th century.

In the United States, tennis was introduced in 1874 with the establishment of the first lawn tennis club in Staten Island. Over time, the sport gained popularity, leading to the formation of the International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF) in 1913. The ILTF later became the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in 1977. One of the most prestigious tennis championships, Wimbledon, began in 1877, establishing standard rules and regulations for the game.

In Indonesia, tennis began to develop in the 1920s, with elite schools being the first to introduce the sport. The Indonesian Lawn Tennis Association (Pelti) was established on December 26, 1935, to further promote the sport in the country. To excel in tennis, players must master basic techniques such as grip, ready position, strokes, and footwork. Different types of grips, such as continental, eastern, and western, are used for various shots in the game.

The rules of tennis dictate how the game is played, from serving to scoring. The game starts with a coin toss to determine who serves first, and points are scored in increments of 15, 30, and 40. Players must win by at least two points, and if the score is tied at 40-40, the game goes to deuce. Additionally, specific equipment is required for playing tennis, including rackets, balls, nets, and a properly sized court.

Understanding the history, basic techniques, rules, and equipment of tennis is essential for players and enthusiasts alike. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned player, having a solid foundation in the fundamentals of the game is key to enjoying and excelling in the sport.
